German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s frustration over new east Jerusalem housing plans may jeopardize Israel’s chances of getting new Dolphin class submarine

Germany is “reconsidering” its decision to sell Israel a sixth Dolphin class submarine, Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, the move was prompted by the tensions between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Merkel’s frustration over the new housing plans approved in east Jerusalem.

Related stories:

Top political sources said that Merkel was irked with Netanyahu, who “gave her the impression that he would be willing to suspend settlement expansion in order to push the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.”

Israel’s recent approval of 1,100 housing units in the Gilo neighborhood in Jerusalem led Merkel to announce that Netanyahu “cannot be taken seriously and has no intention of complying with the basic terms needed to renew the negotiations with the Palestinian.”

Peers,

The news report pasted below is a repeat.  Please notice that I’ve highlighted the concluding paragraph:  “The Prime Minister’s office was unavailable for comment.”  Today’s letterhead (above) includes an activated link which will take us to a Biblical teaching which will encourage us to gird our loins and persevere in our Mideast peacemaking efforts.  We must not lose hope.  We must not lose our dignity.

Peace,

Roy.

Israel may lose German sub deal

Israel’s recent approval of 1,100 housing units in the Gilo neighborhood in Jerusalem led Merkel to announce that Netanyahu “cannot be taken seriously and has no intention of complying with the basic terms needed to renew the negotiations with the Palestinian.”

Merkel and Netanyahu shared strident words following the decisions, and relations between Jerusalem and Berlin have been strained since.

Disconcerting trend

Defense officials expressed concern over Berlin’s intention to suspend and possibly cancel the submarine sale: According to foreign media reports, the new Dolphin was slated to join Israel strategic fleet.

Earlier in 2011, Germany announced that it would grant Israel a €135 million aid package to build its sixth submarine. German funding has been a significant part in the creation of the Israeli Navy’s submarine crops.

The Navy currently has three Dolphin class submarines, and is expected to receive two new ones, currently under construction in Germany. According to foreign media sources, the new submarines will be equipped to carry nuclear warheads.

The deal was originally approved by former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, despite initial concerns that such ballistic capabilities may upset the nuclear balance in the region.

Senior defense officials refused to comment directly, saying only that “The subject of the sixth submarine is currently being negotiation between the (Israeli and German) governments. It is inappropriate to hash the matter out in the media.”

The Prime Minister’s Office was unavailable for comment.

The N.E.M.

Peers,

There’s an article from Catholic News Service pasted below.  You’ll notice that the Peace of Jerusalem is being made one small step at a time.

More and more Roman Catholics, one Catholic at a time, are joining in the international grassroots movement to OCCUPY JERUSALEM.   Like Protestants, Catholics want to prevent the crisis in the Holy Land from developing into another world war.  Nobody would win that war.  Everybody would lose.  Armageddon, rightly understood, is now being waged in Cyberspace.  The OCCUPY JERUSALEM movement is using the Internet in order to avoid bloodshed on the ground.  The Zeitgeist is in a state of transition.  Because individuals, one at a time, are growing more aware.  Not to worry.  Human Consciousness is evolving.  All will become clear in due time.

I’m sending a copy of this post to the Pope, for I believe he’s a man with ideas of his own.  I also believe his heart is in the right place.  Claudia Devaux is a Roman Catholic.  So is Labib.  So is Chris in Phoenix.  I’ve not counted the number of Catholics on my mailing list.  But I feel sure that they’re using their mailing lists to wage peace in the Holy Land with at least as much determination as we Protestants are waging it.  Please read on.

Peace,

Roy

Vatican officials see agreement in church teaching, Occupy Wall Street.

Article by Cindy Wooden, Catholic News Service. Posted on October 25, 2011.

atholic social teaching and the Occupy Wall Street movement agree that the economy should be at the service of the human person and that strong action must be taken to reduce the growing gap between rich and poor, Vatican officials said.

“The basic sentiment” behind the protests is in line with Catholic social teaching and the new document on global finance issued October 24 by Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, said Cardinal Peter Turkson, council president.

The US protesters have focused on Wall Street because “Wall Street is considered to be a big engine house – a big financial structure whose power extends all over the world,” the cardinal told Catholic News Service.

Vatican, Rome. (photo: AP)People who suffer from the way the financial markets currently operate have a right to say, “Do business differently. Look at the way you’re doing business because this is not leading to our welfare and our good,” he said.

“If people can hold their government to account, why can we not hold other institutions in society to accountability if they are not achieving or not helping us live peacefully or well,” Cardinal Turkson said.

“The Vatican is not behind any of these movements, but the basic inspirations can be the same,” he said.

Bishop Mario Toso, secretary of the justice and peace council, told reporters the Vatican’s new document “appears to be in line with the slogans” of Occupy Wall Street and other protest movements around the globe, but “even more it is in line with the previous teaching of the church,” including Pope Benedict XVI’s 2009 encyclical, “Charity in Truth” (“Caritas in Veritate”).

At the Vatican news conference to present the document, Leonardo Becchetti, a professor of economic policy at Rome’s Tor Vergata University, explained why the Vatican sees the need for an international authority to govern the global financial market and why individual government interventions to bail out banks haven’t helped the global economy.

The N.E.M.

Peers,

Michelle opens Dante’s e-mail.   Michelle: You won’t be able to remain sitting down when you read this one, Hon.  This one’s a doozie.   President: Dante’s post?  Is he angry again?  Michelle: Yes, and he’s full of questions.  He says he’s really (deleted) off today, and he says he’s not the only one.   President: What’s he (deleted) off about?   Michelle: He wants you to take a quick look at the headline of the article pasted below and tell him what’s going on.  That’s how the Jerusalem Post reported the Quartet’s meeting in Jerusalem on October the 26th.  He wants know how much longer you’re going to pussy-foot around and allow yourself be intimidated by the Hasbara.  Some of his Allies are wondering whether the Mossad is breathing down your neck.  If that’s the case, the American people would find it unacceptable.  He writes that you’ve no need to worry about the Swarm targeting you.  President: Why’s that?  Michelle:  The Swarm has been exposed once and for all for what it is.   President: Exposed?  How?   Michelle: He doesn’t say.  But I’ve noticed that this essay is making the rounds on the Internet for the fourth or fifth time:  Jimmy Carter and The Swarm.  Everybody in Cyberspace is reading it.  Hon, Israel Shamir wrote that essay, and Shamir is Jewish.  Did you know that?

President: So Dante is writing to encourage me to persevere?   Michelle: Not today.  Not directly anyhow.  He asks you to take a look at the sentence he highlighted half way thru the article pasted below.  America’s Ambassador to Israel …. whose name is Dan Shapiro … promised that the United States would veto Palestine’s bid for statehood regardless of Israel’s decision on settlements.   Dante asks whether Shapiro was authorized to make such an outrageous promise in America’s name.  If so, you and Hillary are allowing Shapiro to talk out of both sides of your mouth.   President: (pause)  Dante is really steamed up today.  (pause)  What else does he write?   Michelle: Finally Dante asks:  “What, if anything, did the Quartet’s meeting in Jersualem accomplish?”

President: Okay.  Enough of Dante’s questions.  Dante’s posts always include a suggestion or two.  Or three or four.  Or more.  What’s he suggesting today?  He usually proposes a succinct remedy.   Michelle: Well, he’s only writing with questions today.  He wrote last week suggesting that you GO PUBLIC and explain to the world why making the Peace of Jerusalem is taking so long.   President: I remember.  And I answered that going public is more easily said than done.  The political situation in the Holy Land is complicated beyond belief.   Michelle:  Then explain the complications, Hon.  Explain the causes of the complications, too.  The American people need your help in understanding the crisis.  President:  Was it Dante who first suggested that I do some teaching?  Or was it you?   Michelle:  Well, we both think it’s a good idea.  I’d like to hear you explain why Dan Shapiro made that outrageous promise.  Perhaps his words were distorted by the media.  And I’d like to know whether anything was accomplished at the Quartet’s meeting this week.  Was anything accomplished?  If not, why not?

Peace,

Roy

Article by James M. Wall for wallwritings.wordpress.com….

Two young Palestinians, Ahlam (left) and Nezar (right) Tammimi, were among the 477 Palestinian prisoners released from Israeli prisons, October 18.

They were in the first contingent of what is supposed to become more than one thousand Palestinians released in an exchange for Israeli Sergeant Gilad Shalit.

The Western media covered the exchange as a story about the lone Israeli soldier involved. Television captured the dramatic scenes of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu greeting the young man who had spent five years in prison.

The Western public saw and read virtually nothing about the 477 Palestinians who were released from Israeli prisons, except for those stories that reminded the public that many of the prisoners, to use the term so popular among Israeli politicians, had “blood on their hands”.

This bias against Palestinians was so blatant that Jewish activist Noam Chomsky was moved to accuse the media of treating the released Palestinian prisoners as “unpeople”. It is time to tell their stories, and to do so without apology.
