Israeli Defence Forces have carried out “powerful strikes” on targets in southern Gaza, after Jerusalem accused Hamas of violating the US-brokered ceasefire.
Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed the strikes after the Israeli Prime Minister ordered intense attacks on the Strip, with Hamas accused of firing an antitank missile as well as live fire at IDF troops in Rafah.
“The response to [Hamas’s] current violations will be much more significant than the response last time,” an Israeli official told Israeli media.
Earlier, the PMO said in a statement:
“Following security consultations, Prime Minister Netanyahu instructed the military to immediately carry out powerful strikes in the Gaza Strip,” a statement from his office said.
Hamas armed wing responded minutes later saying it would postpone the handover of another hostage body scheduled for Tuesday evening (Wednesday AEDT), adding that any Israeli “escalation will hinder the search, excavation, and recovery of the bodies”
