All out war is Israel’s ultimate goal and has been since the extreme right wing took over the Government some 15 years ago – so very sad because Israel is making itself an International leper – Mark Beirut/Cairo: Israel and Hezbollah exchanged heavy fire on Sunday, as Israeli warplanes carried out the most intense bombardment in almost a year of war across Lebanon’s south and Hezbollah claimed rocket attacks on military targets in Israel’s north. The Israeli military said it had conducted a wave of strikes across southern Lebanon over the previous 24 hours, hitting some 400 militant sites, including rocket launchers. An Israeli military spokesman said those strikes had thwarted an even larger attack and that it would continue to strike targets of the Iran-backed movement as the sides appeared to be spiralling toward all-out war following months of escalating tensions. Israel closed schools and restricted gatherings in many northern areas of the country and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights early on Sunday. Hospitals in northern Israel have been instructed to transfer their operations to facilities with extra protection from rocket and missile fire, the health ministry said. Rambam Hospital in the city of Haifa will transfer patients to its underground, secure facility, the ministry said.
